IGNOU, Indira Gandhi National Open University
is a Central University located in the heart of New Delhi, India. IGNOU was named after former Prime Minister of India, Shri Mati Indira Gandhi. The university was established in the year 1985 under the IGNOU act.
IGNOU was formed to offer distance and open education options to the Indian Population. IGNOU offers high quality education opportunities to all segments of the society. IGNOU has set up five zones: north, south, east, west and north-east.
IGNOU is vastly spread not only in India but also in 15 more countries. IGNOU has 21 schools with a network of 67 regional centres, 2667 study centres, and 29 overseas centres (in 15 countries). As per the surveys conducted, approximately 20% of the students are enrolled with the higher education in India.
IGNOU offers 226 academic programs which comprises of courses based on certificate, diploma and degree levels. As of now IGNOU has served over 4 million students in India and 40 other countries abroad.
